As we look to the future, the priority for the housing industry will increasingly be focusing on the sustainable environment. With this comes the requirement to be able to lead our organisations and support our service users through the fundamental challenges and evolutionary changes taking place.
Our Autumn Senior Leaders Networking event brought together a broad spectrum of industry expertise and experience, to highlight regional and collective challenges, and find collaborative solutions to some of the greatest issues being experienced across our industry. Participants ranged from a wide selection of national and smaller providers across the UK, from sector segments including Asset Management, HR, Housing Management, Development, Transformation, Finance and Policy.
Some of the topics covered in this session included the cost-of-living crisis, net zero targets, the skills shortages across the sector, the impact these shortages are having on organisations and salary levels, and what examples exist to tackle these challenges.
In addition to holding these thought leadership events, we’ve been carrying out surveys throughout the year, to gain a snapshot of what our industry leaders are grappling with, how they are progressing in terms of what measures are being taken to solve the biggest problems, and to share best practice, success (and not so successful) stories with others across our network. The aim is to harness a collaborative mindset to help drive forward strategic, workable solutions to a range of issues that many across the sector are struggling to solve independently, whilst often collectively facing similar issues.
With the right leadership approaches, and a diversity of strategic angles, our participants are working together to find new solutions to existing and future collective issues. By gaining an in-depth understanding of the current drivers for change, and encouraging more collaboration at board and executive level, we are seeing a more cohesive effort to combat competitive and often aggressive external forces, and realising that together, we are better, stronger and more resilient as a sector.
Leading confidently today towards tomorrow’s challenges
This Autumn kicks off our very first Learning to Lead programme, which pilots with two established leading housing providers coming together to develop their up and coming leaders in a safe, engaging environment and we are excited to get going!
Many new leaders only receive development support months or years after they have already stepped into a role, and by then it is often too late. With the great migration taking place across the global work landscape, it is vital to provide employees with the support, guidance and tools they need to become effective future leaders and grow within your organisation, before they spread their wings for better opportunities for growth elsewhere.
Our flagship, CIH accredited, Leading for Tomorrow programme has also been in full swing throughout the year, and participants will be presenting their group projects at the end of 2022, using the knowledge, expertise and guidance gained throughout the programme to identify industry challenges, research solutions and use their gained applied experiences to find strategy-led solutions to benefit the wider sector. We are looking forward to sharing this year’s participants project proposals, so watch this space for upcoming details!
